$ebbuku | ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’

Emerging from Norwich’s vibrant underground scene, rapper and producer $ebbuku (aka Sebastian Bates) returns with the electrifying new single ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’ — the first taste of his upcoming EP JUVENILE. Known for pairing raw, introspective storytelling with hypnotic, beat-driven soundscapes, $ebbuku continues to carve out a bold, genre-defiant space in UK hip-hop.

“This track is one massive vent,” Seb says. “It’s about that weird contradiction of everything changing and nothing changing. People are burnt out, and this was our way of pushing back — of expressing that frustration through hip-hop and jazz, but still keeping that laid-back defiance.”

A visceral blend of live instrumentation, gritty lyricism, and textured production, ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’ captures the urgency and emotional depth that defines $ebbuku’s work. Layered with modulated piano, sub-heavy bass, jazz-inflected drums, and ambient synths, the track moves seamlessly between punk energy and funk-laced experimentation, all anchored by his expressive, unflinching vocal delivery.

He adds: “It’s also the first time we’ve recorded a track almost entirely live. Capturing the chemistry of the live band in the studio really brought this one to life. For a song rooted in agro, it was a wicked twist to let it breathe with a more orchestral, jazz-driven sound. We just want to keep it real — that’s the mission.”

With support from platforms including Reprezent, BBC, Notion, and packed-out shows across the East of England — including a standout set at Brighten The Corners Festival — $ebbuku is rapidly becoming one of the UK’s most compelling rising voices. As he gears up to release JUVENILE, $ebbuku is not just pushing sonic boundaries — he’s telling the stories that demand to be heard.
