Irish Neo-Soul Collective Projective Return With Lush New Single ‘Motions’

Following a wave of critical praise and repeat spins on Jazz FM’s B-List and BBC Radio 6 Music, rising Irish outfit Projective make a triumphant return with their latest single, ‘Motions’ — a radiant, genre-spanning release that fuses elements of neo-soul, jazz, and hip-hop into a sound all their own.

Projective’s dynamic instrumentation — from swing-heavy drums and warm basslines to layered keys and shimmering guitar licks — forms the bedrock for a vocal performance that’s equally nuanced. With a three-part vocal delivery that slides effortlessly between soulful harmonies and laid-back rap, ‘Motions’ is both technically sharp and emotionally resonant.

Recorded in collaboration with Kealan Kenny (Youth, Pa Sheehy, Allie Sherlock), ‘Motions’ offers a masterclass in musical interplay. From smooth, swelling keys and brass flourishes to a groove-driven hip-hop section, the track evolves organically — a reflection of the band’s deep musicality and commitment to fluid, genre-bending arrangements.

Speaking about the creative direction behind the song, the band shares, “‘Motions’ is our way of paying tribute to the iconic sounds of neo-soul and jazz rap. Artists like The Roots and D’Angelo were huge influences during the writing process. We wanted to bring that ‘90s feel into our own world — something laid-back, catchy, and sonically beautiful. The stacked vocals on the chorus, with all three singers, were key to capturing that vibe.”

Since forming, Projective has quickly established themselves as a standout in Ireland’s vibrant new music scene. In just over a year, they’ve supported breakout stars like Monjola and Aby Coulibaly, sold out headline shows across the country — including a standout performance at Cork Opera House’s Green Room — and earned coverage from DMY, Hot Press, Atwood Magazine, and District Magazine, who named them in their ‘Future Of Irish Music Class Of 2025’.

Live, the band has proven to be a magnetic force. From appearances at the Cork Guinness Jazz Festival 2023 to standout sets at Chamomile Garden Dublin alongside Jordan Adetunji and Strandz, their genre-blending shows are fast gaining a reputation for their energy and finesse.

Now with their second official release, Projective are not just riding a wave — they’re building a movement. ‘Motions’ is out now and continues to mark them as one of Ireland’s most exciting and boundary-pushing new acts.
