A Stay at The Reykjavik Edition

Reykjavik’s first 5-star hotel, The Reykjavik Edition, opened its doors in 2021, and since then, it has been a beacon of hospitality, drawing guests from around the globe.

Nestled between the striking Harpa concert hall and the old harbour, The Reykjavik Edition is the place to stay when you visit what is now my favourite island.

Conveniently accessible by car or the Hotel Drop-Off Shuttle from Keflavik airport, The Edition Reykjavik boasts a prime location. Attractions like Hallgrimskírkja are just a short stroll away.

Its exterior evokes the iconic basalt columns found along the coast, seamlessly blending into its natural surroundings. Designed by well-known designers Roman and Williams in collaboration with local firm T.ark, this hotel embodies the essence of Icelandic charm.

Upon stepping into the lobby, I found myself instantly enchanted by its contemporary allure and inviting atmosphere.

As I have not been lucky once again with Mother Nature’s northern show, a mesmerising projection of the Northern Lights caught my eye. Another standout feature is the volcanic lava stone displayed in the lobby!

From this bustling central hub, visitors can escape into various cozy corners. Not just hotel guests hanging around; the space attracts a diverse crowd, from business professionals to adventurous souls chatting away in the Hotels Tides Café or visitors from the nearby Harpa Concert Hall enjoying a pre-show drink by the bar.

My friend and I just finished a long road trip from a farm in the East of the island and were so excited for a warm shower and some quiet downtime.

You could not miss my strong smell of sheep and Icelandic horses, but the hotel director greeted us friendly with the words “Everyone can come as they are”.

We get a little introduction to a secret night bar, as we grab our card and take the lift to our room. Just like little kids exploring a wonderland, we wander around the hallway. As I opened the door to our room I felt like “Kate Winslet entering the Villa in The Holiday” for the first time.

We jump from the living space to the bedroom, facetime my mom to share our excitement, and give a full-on room tour with a few happy screams included.

We stayed at the Harbor Suite, which offers a range of modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. The suite boasts generous living spaces, including separate living, dining, and sleeping areas, designed to provide the utmost relaxation and privacy when nee- ded. Sleek furnishings, floor-to-ceiling windows, a guest bathroom, and custom-imported linens are just a few of the details that add that little something to your stay. The bathroom invites you to long showers with an enclosed rainfall shower and a separate bathtub.

The use of ceramics (made by artist Guðbjörg Káradóttir) greatly enhances sustainability.

Going to Iceland you will drink the best tap water that there is in the world, so there is no need for plastic bottles and fancy overpriced water.

With the provided ceramic carafe you can refill your cup as often as you want. Well done Edition!!

Not only was T.Ark involved in the project but there are also plush faux fur rugs and bed throws designs by Védís Jónsdóttir to be found.

Photographs by Pall Stefansson and Ragnar Axelsson decorate the wall, which creates a beautiful atmosphere, knowing that a brand like EDITION supports local artists.

Side note: All items mentioned, you can purchase in The Edition online shop: www.europe.shopedition.com

With panoramic views of the bay and the mountains, my friend and I were glued to the windows with our mouths wide open. In good weather conditions, you can even see the famous Snaefellsnes Peninsula (definitely worth a 1 or 2-day trip!).

If you want an even better view you can go to the rooftop bar and enjoy the beautiful landscapes from there.

After a day of exploring Reykjavik’s charming streets you can also find some peace in the hotel’s spa facilities and get warm.

After a much needed shower, we decided to lay down, cuddle up in bed and watch Christmas movies, as my +1 had to depart in the middle of the night.

You know when a smell reminds you of a special time in life? Well, I have to admit that I had to secretly fill up some of the shampoo and take it home, to keep that special scent with me.

I now smell my hair and it reminds me of our stay.

If I had to choose my favorite aspect of our stay it would be the integration of Icelandic culture into every aspect of the guest experience, from the locally sourced amenities to the curated art collections that decorate the walls.

A country like Iceland lives from its old traditions and every newly built hotel is a potential threat to its beauty. The Reykjavik Edition cherishes the soul of the country, and we love seeing that!

The service is second to none, with attentive staff ready to assist with anything guests may need.

From seamless check-in to personalized recommendations, the team goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable time.

For those seeking a blend of luxury, culture, and natural beauty, The Reykjavik Edition is the perfect destination for an unforgettable stay.
