New Film Set 183 Years Before The Two Towers

For anyone who enjoyed Peter Jackson’s cinematic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The War of the Rohirrim could be a must-watch. One of the highlights of the three pictures from the New Zealand-born director was the battle of Helm’s Deep in The Two Towers. That epic sequence featured the Riders of Rohan, and now there’s finally going to be a more detailed backstory about how the great army first came about.

The new animated offering will tell the story of Helm Hammerhand, a legendary King of Rohan who lived almost 200 years before the events of The Lord of The Rings. Helm’s Deep was named after him after he successfully defended it against an army of Dunlendings, and the new picture from Kenji Kamiyama will portray that incredible battle. There are some big names providing voices for the cast, with Brian Cox starring as Hammerhand.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be a welcome addition to the franchise and will help expand the cinematic universe based on Tolkien’s novels. It could be the first of many pictures that provide a detailed backstory to the main Lord of the Rings series.
