International pop artist Jamie Miller may not be a stranger to the music industry but, in a way, he’s just getting started. Having recently inked a deal with BMG, not to mention he’s currently boasting over 1 billion global streams, he’s dipping his toes into new territory– he’s just released a new version of his latest single “Maybe Next Time” featuring Young K, vocalist and bassist of South Korean band Day6 (JYP).

To celebrate the release, Jamie Miller chats with 1883 Magazine about his go-to karaoke song, how his collaboration with Younk K came about, and where he hopes his music will take him.

Tell us about your latest single “Maybe Next Time” – what’s the inspiration behind it?

It sounds really sad, but hitting rock bottom made me write this song. I was in such a dark space last year and this song alongside my family and therapy really helped me out!

Where is the best place to listen to “Maybe Next Time”?

Night time, windows down screaming at the top of your lungs is the best in my opinion.

We love the new version of the single with Young K! How did that collaboration come about?

I loved his voice and I told my manager and my manager made it happen! I’m so stoked.

In a few short words, how would you best describe your music to someone that’s never heard it?

Pop soul I would say. I love real music and if that’s your vibe then stay tuned!

What does a day in the studio look like for you?

It starts with telling my producers what’s on my mind, and then I start writing stuff down in my journal and then singing it out in the room and then we catch a vibe!

What other bands/musicians inspire you when you’re making music?

I would say I love country music and it really inspires me a lot as random as that is. Kelsea Ballerini is one of my favourites right now!

What movie or TV show do you think your music would fit on the soundtrack?

I would say any movie by Justin Baldoni!

Where do you hope your music career takes you this year and beyond?

I hope it takes me to everywhere I dreamed since I was a kid. I want to do a world tour one day and I’m not stopping until I’m there!
