On rotation this week is the brand new single from Will Young. “The Worst” is a prime example of Will in his element, penning an intimate and emotive ballad full of drama and exceptional vocals. Thematically, the song is about an over-thinker who is terrified of opening up to the possibility of a new love. The track is lifted from his new LP, Light It Up which has released yesterday. The multitalented artist Jesse Jo Stark is back with the fantastic single, “billie don’t be so mad”. It’s a gem of a song with soulful vocals, grooving drums, and funk influences. You can catch Jesse live at YungBlud’s Bludfest in Milton Keynes this Sunday or at her headline Dingwalls show August 14. The Dare is continuing to revive the ‘indie sleaze’ genre with his new track “You’re Invited”. It’s the latest offering from his forthcoming debut record What’s Wrong With New York? Which lands on September 6. It’s another infectious and bold release from one of the buzziest new artists around. Electronic-funk duo Franc Moody are delivering the goods on their sublime surprise release, “Going Through The Motions”. It’s their first proper release of the year and follows on from a feature on Cosmo’s Midnight track “Fantasy”. “Going Through The Motion” is full of gorgeous, otherworldly production, on-point vocals, a huge riff, slinky bass, and trademark FM sounds many have come to love.
Elsewhere in the playlist, you can find the acclaimed musician, visual artist, designer, and DJ, KESH. She’s just dropped the exhilarating track “Cried For You”. It’s a rollercoaster of glitchy textures, understated vocals, and drum & bass influences. You can catch KESH playing a headline single launch show at Market Hotel, New York, tonight. Next up, the artist, songwriter, and producer George Daniel has finally officially launched his solo era with the tune “Screen Cleaner”. It’s a club-ready dance anthem launched on the electronic imprint, dh2. The 1975 drummer has always been known for his production mastery and it’s incredibly exciting to see him release solo music. Newcomers Sunday (1994) have released the tender and vulnerable track, “Softly”. It’s lifted from their forthcoming deluxe version of their self-titled EP, which will drop September 6. The track is full of dreamy vocals and jangle-pop soundscapes. Don’t sleep on this band. Finally, Australian indie-folk-pop songwriter Chris Lanzon has shared the moving tune, “Towers”. It’s full of captivating vocals and a tender ambience. The song was co-written with fellow artist Deb Never and thematically it is a reflection of the human tendency to avoid discomfort. Lanzon’s new EP Angel Litany is out September 12.
