The latest in new music. Curated by the 1883 team.

The latest in new music from Charli xcx, Dua Saleh, Nat & Alex Wolff, Camden Cox & more in this week’s 1883 On Rotation playlist.

On rotation this week is the forward-thinking pop superstar, Charli xcx. She’s already dominated this year with the release of her latest record Brat, whilst also making the word a buzzy, marketable phrase. Now, she has released an intriguing new version of the LP entitled Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat. Every single album track has been reimagined and features a whole host of incredible artists. Make sure to check out “Mean girls” featuring Julian Casablancas. Irish Songwriter Cian Finn has shared his new record What’s Next. It’s an album that seamlessly blends hip-hop, soul, and dancehall together. Although there are plenty of upbeat sonics, Finn’s introspective lyricism is utterly gorgeous. On the album track “Grá Mór”, he’s sharing his gratitude to the people he loves as he looks back on his formative years growing up in Galway. Don’t sleep on this artist. The Wombats are back with the understated but lush single, “Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want To Come”. It features tropical pop, falsetto vocals, slow-grooving funk, and orchestral textures. Lead singer Murph grapples with his antisocial side on the single. It is taken from the band’s forthcoming sixth studio record Oh! The Ocean which drops on February 21st next year. The dynamics are seriously impressive as Saleh manages to offer up serene and powerful vocals. It’s a cinematic experience with otherwordly sonics. The song is lifted from the artist’s debut record I Should Call Them which is out now.

Elsewhere in the playlist, you can find New Zealander Lucian Rice. The artist recently shared his single, “ninezero”, a mix of hazy, distorted guitars, indie vocals, and thunderous drums. It’s a brilliant concoction of nu-gaze, dream pop and alt-rock. The song is lifted from Rice’s forthcoming debut EP, right now, forever which lands on October 18th. Talented duo Nat & Alex Wolff have shared the glorious tune, “Soft Kissing Hour” which was produced by global sensation, Billie Eilish. It’s full of tender vocals, warm acoustic guitar, and a subtle ambience. It is sonic perfection. Speaking about the track, the pair said: “Writing this track was a cathartic experience, and having our dear friend Billie produce the song made it even more powerful.” Catch Nat & Alex supporting Billie on tour from tonight until December 17th. Belgium band Bluai have released their latest tune, “Better, I swear”. It combines folk, pop, and indie – the end result is mesmerising. Make sure to check out the band’s debut record Save It For Later after it releases on November 8th. Songwriter extraordinaire Cavetown has teamed up with fellow popular artist Frankie Cosmos for the new song, “magic 8 ball”. It’s a bedroom-pop gem with lo-fi sonics, bright guitar and stellar vocals. Read our last chat with Cavetown by clicking here. Finally, the Grammy-nominated DJ, vocalist, and songwriter Camden Cox has released her new track, “Lost and Found”. It’s an anthemic dance experience from start to finish. Thematically, the song is about “those feelings you get when the sun is coming up at the end of a night out”.
