Personal & Professional Background
Can you share your career journey — how did you get started in real estate development, and what inspired you to focus on Huntsville and the surrounding region?
I began my career in real estate development and homebuilding along the Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast. In the early 1980s, I visited Huntsville and was immediately struck by the area’s growth potential. That visit inspired me to start building communities here, eventually becoming Alabama’s largest privately held homebuilder. Huntsville’s dynamic environment and welcoming approach to development made it the ideal place to focus my efforts.
Signature Projects
Which development projects are you most proud of, and what unique features or community benefits do they offer?
I’m particularly proud of the Town Madison and Clift Farm developments. These projects have dramatically transformed the City of Madison and Madison County by providing new housing options and enhancing local amenities. I am also proud of our Fischer Crossing project in Peachtree City, GA where we teamed with Kaiser Permanente to build a new medical center to meet the needs of the community. Beyond improving quality of life for residents, these projects have expanded the local tax base—offering both economic and social benefits to the region.
Community Impact
How have your projects contributed to Huntsville’s growth, both economically and socially?
Our developments have delivered thousands of homes to support Huntsville’s rapid population growth. This expansion has boosted the local tax base, strengthened the regional economy, and contributed to the city’s vibrant social fabric.
Philanthropy & Giving Back
What charitable causes or community initiatives are you most passionate about supporting?
My wife Patti and I are passionate about supporting causes that serve children and our veterans. We’re proud supporters of Kids to Love, an Alabama-based organization dedicated to helping foster children. We donated a 13,000-square-foot building to serve as the Kids to Love Center, giving the organization a permanent home. We’ve also partnered with Helping a Hero and Lee Greenwood to build and donate specially adapted homes for veterans with disabilities.
Innovation in Development
What innovative building techniques, technologies, or sustainability practices do you integrate into your projects?
We focus on building high-quality, affordable homes for families. Our approach is rooted in strong building fundamentals, rigorous quality control, and the development of thoughtfully designed, master-planned communities. These practices ensure sustainability and meet the evolving needs of today’s families at a price point they can afford.
Leadership & Vision
How would you describe your leadership style, and how does it influence your company’s culture and long-term vision?
I consider myself a hands-on leader. This approach has shaped our company’s structure—a small, dedicated team that works collaboratively to execute large-scale projects. Our culture emphasizes hard work and commitment, working with quality industry partners that align with our vision to execute important projects.
Industry Recognition
Have you or your company received any awards, media features, or industry recognitions that stand out as significant milestones?
I was honored to receive the Excellence in Leadership and Service Award from the Madison Chamber of Commerce. This recognition highlights our efforts to develop Town Madison and enhance the city’s tax base and quality of life. It affirms the meaningful impact our projects have made in the community. I am also proud to have been recognized as the Heart Association’s Heart of the Community for our record of philanthropy and public service.
Challenges & Solutions
What major challenges have you faced in real estate development, and how have you overcome them to ensure successful outcomes?
Real estate development presents numerous challenges, from economic shifts to regulatory complexities. Over time, I’ve learned that adaptability and forward-thinking are essential. Strong relationships with local governments and a deep understanding of market dynamics have enabled us to navigate obstacles effectively. Our flexibility and commitment to quality have been key to delivering long-lasting value.
Future Outlook
