18 Questions With indie rockers The Pedals

Hertfordshire indie rock outfit The Pedals continue to build momentum with the release of their latest single, ‘Halfway’, a track that captures both their raw energy and growing confidence as a band. Emerging from the UK’s grassroots circuit, the group have quickly developed a reputation for high-impact live shows and a sound rooted in driving guitars and unfiltered emotion.

Formed in 2022 by founding members Olly and James, The Pedals have steadily expanded their audience through word of mouth and consistent touring. Early support slots and packed shows at venues including Camden Assembly and O2 Academy Islington have helped establish their presence, while endorsements from fellow indie acts have further raised their profile.

‘Halfway’ reflects the band’s instinctive approach to songwriting, having originated from a spontaneous moment during a live warm-up. That immediacy carries through to the finished track, which balances punchy riffs with a lyrical focus on uncertainty and transition. It’s a theme that resonates with a band still navigating their own upward trajectory.

As they continue to refine their sound and expand their reach, The Pedals are carving out a distinct space within the UK indie landscape.

To find out more, we caught up with The Pedals for 18 Questions With, where they discuss their influences, creative process, and what lies ahead.

What’s one exciting thing that happened to you this week?

We played The Grace in Islington the same day that Halfway released.

What was the last thing you read?

A Rolling Stone article on the top albums of 2025.

Favourite memory growing up?

Listening to Razorlights debut album and Day & Age by The Killers on CD in the car everywhere we drove.

Where was the last place you travelled to?

Nowhere too exciting, but James and I are travelling over to Paris to see The Royston Club at the end of the month.

What was the last thing that made you laugh?

Joe’s Instagram reposts are horrendous, and his Football Manager save is falling apart too.

What’s your nighttime ritual?

Scrolling through TikTok endlessly.

Who would be on your dream dinner party guest list?

The Syndicate (Sam Fender, Lewis Capaldi, Grian Chatten, and hopefully Jacob Slater).

Favourite quote from a film or TV show?

‘Alright Dave?’ – Only Fools and Horses

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

‘Slide Away’ – Oasis.

Favourite item in your closet?

An old Palace jacket that has been to almost every gig.

What is the major throughline on the new track, the message you want listeners to take away?

It’s about being a bit stuck in between things – not where you were, not quite where you want to be. Nothing too deep, just real.

What were your favourite moments from recording the song?

Being in Air Raid Studios, and when the song actually starts sounding big.

Where did the band’s name come from, and were there any other close contenders?

James still can’t ride a bike, so we thought we’d mock it.

How do you normally celebrate when you’ve released a song?

Gig or pub, usually both.

What’s the dream venue to play?

Rock City.

What’s on your rider for a show?

Red Stripe and we’re sound.

Music is a tough industry. What keeps you all motivated?

We have a laugh, it’s good fun.

Finally, what is one thing you would like to manifest for yourself and why?

A tour next year, just to get out and play more places.
