If you like pop-rock with polished guitars, catchy melodies, and direct lyrics about love and undeniable chemistry, you’ll love this single. “Sweetless Surrender” is by New York singer-songwriter Ava Franks and indie rockers Young Rising Sons. It’s an indie-pop track with a ’90s spirit and lyrics that feel like a cool breeze on a hot day.
“Sweetless Surrender” is a burst of energy and feel-good vibes that perfectly captures the dizzying feeling of new love. Driven by an undeniably optimistic mood, the song features huge choruses and irresistible rhythms that draw you in from the first listen.
It’s also Ava Franks’ first collaboration with a band. Young Rising Sons join her in the second verse, creating a balanced and engaging result. What’s most interesting is how they bring two musical worlds together. Ava Franks brings the essence of ’90s alternative pop. Reflecting on the creative process, she says, “I loved channeling the kind of 90s indie alt energy you’d hear at Lilith Fair (…) This collab feels completely full circle to me, and I’m super grateful!”
Young Rising Sons, meanwhile, bring their signature melodic rock sound and vibrant guitars. Their vocalist, Andy Tongren, adds a perfect boost in the second verse. Speaking about the collaboration, Tongren says, “We’re super excited to be a part of this; it was a blast jumping in on the second verse. We’ve been a fan of Ava for a while (…) having this come together felt really natural”
Set on a beach with a bright, natural aesthetic, the music video has a fresh, organic atmosphere, filled with sunlight and coastal scenery. Ava remains at the center of the video, creating an intimate, dynamic narrative that complements the song’s rhythm.
With its nostalgic ’90s textures and the freshness of a new beginning, “Sweetless Surrender” blends Ava Franks’ alternative world with Young Rising Sons’ melodic energy. As both acts continue to expand their creative horizons and celebrate this summery collaboration, it’s clear this is only the first step in a musical connection that promises much more.
