Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Jazzie Young makes her debut with “Everything Changes,” a ten-track album that captures the imperfect beauty of transformation and the love, growth, and uncertainty that come with it.
“It follows the ups and downs that I’ve experienced from both externally driven relationships and the relationship I have with myself. The constant evolution that takes place within that always leads me back to the never-ending question of ‘Who am I?’” Jazzie explains.
From the opening chords of “Waiting On You!,” one of the album’s signature indie tracks, Jazzie Young’s warm voice glides between the euphoric alt-pop and tender introspection, recalling the emotional clarity of artists like Clairo or Gracie Abrams. The production team—comprising John Velasquez, Grace Freeman, and Campbell Burns—is joined by Daywave and drummer Florian Gouello, who layered each song with textures that strike a delicate, immersive balance between vintage and modern sounds.
“Everything Changes” is a personal journey through the contradictions of the human heart. Tracks like “It Could Be Good” and “Speckled Yellow Eyes” oscillate between the thrill of a new beginning and the ache of loss. In “Mr Casual,” Jazzie Young lightens the mood with a playful, liberating anthem about casual connections.
Jazzie explains that the album was born from her lifelong fascination with change, something she has always pursued but also deeply feared. That duality became the thread she explored throughout both the lyrics and the sound. That tension between desire and fear runs through the record, especially in the title track, “Everything Changes,” a tender ballad about parting ways without losing oneself.
The heartfelt “Miss You Already” traces stages of grief. At the same time, fan favorite “Lux,” inspired by Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, reflects on emotional growth, love’s unraveling, and the nostalgia time leaves behind.
The album closes with “Family Tree,” an intimate meditation on emotional inheritance and the weight of family ties. Here, Jazzie reveals her depth as a storyteller. Her voice, soft yet assured, embraces each word with the calm of someone who’s learned that growing up also means letting go.
“Everything Changes” is a tender, heartfelt debut that feels like a hug. With it, Jazzie Young emerges as one of Los Angeles’ most compelling new voices in alternative pop. The record celebrates the beauty of self-discovery, learning who we are, even as everything around us shifts.
