2025 is looking bright for Oli Barton. The pop singer-songwriter is prepping for a nationwide tour next year on the heels of “Day & Night,” his latest single. “The lyrics portray a character who has a high opinion of himself but is completely incapable of expressing anything romantic to his love interest, instead falling back on endless platitudes and clichés,” he says to 1883 about the new track.
Barton began his musical journey busking on local high streets, where he quickly learned what connects with people. This experience helped him develop a dynamic stage presence and the ability to engage audiences. By merging elements of indie rock and jangle-pop with sparkling synths, Oli creates a style of alt-pop rooted in live instrumentation and organic musicianship.
Oli’s music seamlessly blends a contemporary, vibrant pop sound with dynamic guitar backdrops and a playful sense of humour, encapsulating the thrill and turmoil of life’s relationships. “Day & Night” exemplifies this style, featuring spirited, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. “It’s my cheesy love song, and I make no apologies for it,” he says when asked about the track. “We were scheduled to record a different track, but while everyone was preparing, I started doodling on my acoustic guitar and came up with the riff. Within 10-15 minutes, I had written the verses for ‘Day & Night.’ It all happened so quickly and naturally, and that’s what makes it special.”
