It’s night five of The Weeknd’s Wembley residency. Opening the stage is an individual called Prince 85 who sports an alien head prosthetic. The tunes are heavy – quite trance in nature – but his appearance creates an uncertainty in the crowd.

There has been much discourse online in regards to whether the alien-esque mask he adorns is done so to conceal his identity. An identity, perhaps, that we may recognise in the form of Abel himself. Many have pointed out that there are no images of the two together, despite being tourmates.

And after all, he has bagged himself the support slot on the world tour of the most streamed artist in the world, despite flying under the radar of most. That certainly raises questions.

Could that be why Prince85 is mute? Most artists on such a huge support slot seize their chance to bond with potential new fans. But for the duration of his set, Prince 85 let the beats do the talking.

His set was made up entirely of instrumental, electro synthwave style tunes, a little heavier than what you’d usually expect from The Weeknd.

The performance seemed to incite confusion and intrigue, rather than enthusiasm, from the members of the crowd who had turned up early enough to see it, and they were trying to digest the unusual spectacle happening before them.

Prince 85 also posts videos of himself on his social channels, showing him into whining with concertgoers queueing outside the stadium, only fuelling rumours that it’s part of some kind of experiment by Abel.

Could audiences be entirely unaware that they are stood next to the artist they are in line to see?

That would certainly make for an interesting social commentary. But where is it headed? Surely, all must be revealed soon.

Regardless, the masked individual on stage put on a stellar support slot full of dancefloor ready tunes.
