Two saxophones, a drum kit, and absolutely zero regard for conventional genre boundaries. That’s been the formula for Danish trio Smag På Dig Selv since 2018, and their new single “Let’s Go!”, premiering today on 1883 Magazine, proves they’re still committed to making the weirdest, most thrilling music possible.

Calling this track a “Viking anthem wrapped in electronic chaos” isn’t marketing speak, it’s genuinely what’s happening here. Throat singing collides with electro production courtesy of hyped Danish producer TMI Tammi, creating something that sounds like it was beamed in from an alternate timeline where ancient Norse warriors discovered synthesisers. It’s ridiculous. It absolutely works.

The backstory makes it even better. The band, Oliver Lauridsen (tenor sax), Thorbjørn Øllgaard (baritone and bass sax, vocals), and Albert Holberg (drums) retreated to a 200-year-old cottage in North Zealand last October with plans to make techno. Instead, the autumnal Bon Iver vibes got to them, and they ended up exploring what they call an “ambient Viking band” concept. That kind of creative pivot is exactly what makes Smag På Dig Selv so compelling. They follow the music wherever it wants to go, even if that means abandoning the original plan entirely.

Since their 2024 debut album ‘SPDS’ established them as one of Denmark’s most boundary-pushing acts, the trio have been tearing through festivals worldwide : Roskilde, SXSW, The Great Escape, even SummerStage in Central Park. Their live shows mix acoustic techno, punk energy, and 90s dance into something that shouldn’t exist on paper but makes perfect sense once you’re in the room.

“Let’s Go!” serves as the second single from their upcoming album, due March 2026, which they’ll debut with their spectacular Christiania World Tour in the heart of Copenhagen’s Freetown where the band itself was formed. If this track is any indication, they’re not softening their approach. They’re doubling down on the chaos, pushing two saxophones and drums further than anyone thought possible.

Sometimes the best music comes from people who refuse to make sense. Smag På Dig Selv have built their entire career on that principle.
