Two Nights at Tempo By Hilton Times Square

1883 Magazine spends two nights at Tempo By Hilton Times Square. Read our review below.
Tempo

Offering stunning views of the iconic Times Square in New York City, Tempo By Hilton is providing guests with an exceptional experience for reasonable pricing.

Stylish with a contemporary feel, Tempo by Hilton launched the flagship site on Broadway only in August last year. Given how well the hotel operates for such a new brand, it’s easy to think Tempo By Hilton Times Square has been running for years, thanks to its well-thought-out design, efficient and friendly staff, and chic rooms. It clearly helps to be tied to the successful, global Hilton Hotels & Resorts, as the service at the hotel is second to none. When you get to the hotel for the first time, you’ll discover it’s situated right next to Times Square, and obviously the clue is in the name. From a design perspective, Tempo By Hilton Times Square made the smart move. Rather than having its entrance on the main street adjacent to the bustling tourist attraction, where there will be large crowds most hours of the day and night, the entrance is on a side street. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s a real asset and it allows guests to enjoy some calm before heading out to the bright neon advertisements and holiday-goers.

After taking an elevator up to the 11th floor, you’ll find yourself at the hotel’s open-plan lobby, which is adorned with gorgeous furnishings and there are plenty of staff to assist with your check-in. Guest rooms start on the 16th floor and go all the way up to the 46th and Tempo has efficiently fitted in 661 rooms, including a presidential suite, in the skyscraper. During my stay, I was able to enjoy a King Corner Room on the 39th floor. It comes with sleek decor, a king-sized bed with a Sealy Accelerate mattress, desk space, a seating area, a 65-inch HD TV, an ensuite,  and a curved wall of floor-to-ceiling corner windows. Covering a modest space of around 339sq ft, the room comes with all the amenities you could need for your stay – wifi, a mini-refrigerator, hairdryer, and more are all included.

The ensuite has a certain luxurious feeling to it, thanks to its chrome fixtures, Apotheke bath + bodycare, and the large ring light-esque mirror that comes with a built-in bluetooth speaker – yes really, and it’s great. In the ensuite, it’s a pleasant atmosphere, and the spacious shower does the trick. Certainly, the most appealing aspect of my King Corner Room was the glorious view I was able to enjoy of Times Square, the skyscrapers, and a glimpse at another big New York City landmark, Central Park. When it comes to getting  some sleep, yes as it’s a busy area, you can expect to possibly hear some noise from the nightlife outside but you’ll be relatively unscathed and still get a good night’s sleep. Between my excursions in the day, when I came back to the hotel for some peace, it was just a pure joy to watch the world go by as cars bustled down the gridded streets. For tourists, the hotel is also near many attractions like Radio City Music Hall, the Rockefeller Centre,  and Grand Central Station.

Although I didn’t have the time to try out all of the hotel’s features, such as Tempo Fitness – the hotel’s gym area or the sky lobby, I did make more than one trip to its sublime bar and restaurant, Highball. The menu consists of ‘sharable classics’ like spinach and artichoke dip, Thai chilli coconut wings, small plates of soba noodles, green hummus, different salads, and the ‘main dishes’.  The staple cheeseburger at Highball is delicious with its tomato jam and potato chips. There’s also mouthwatering steak, and other options available on the main menu. If you have a sweet tooth, try the New York cheesecake from the S&S Bakery in the Bronx.

Overall, Tempo by Hilton Times Square offers an exceptional experience for the new-age business traveller or for a more than comfortable solo trip to the city. Regardless, it’s definitely worth a stay.
