When Cardi B came to the Roberto Cavalli show for SS2027 in Milan on 24th September it wasn’t the tiger print that was the key element of her look. It was the huge trim that wrapped around her entire dress. Going around her neck, down each sleeve and the length of her front opening. InStyle referred to it as being trimmed in fur and that is as detailed as we know it to be. With no info from Cavalli we can only guess and some others who reported on her look referred to her collar as faux.
Well, that is the biggest example, and most people won’t be wearing that. The one thing to note though is a collar that wraps around your neck and can even come off.

Collars that can be detached have been spotted throughout this season from fashion houses that don’t typically follow each other’s trends. At Hermès this was central to the Fall 2026 show by Nadège Vanhée who showed the collection inspired by dusk and created many pieces of clothing you can add/remove collars to. Whether that’s adding a hood with the use of zips or having removable shearling around your neck. Fendi also played on this idea for their latest show under the direction of new creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri. Fur was added to clothes as tippets, collars and patchwork. With Fendi explaining that all skins used were taken from previous stock. The small white leather collar was another look to stand out that can be worn on just about anything, from suits to evening dresses. WWD said it could’ve been a homage to Karl Lagerfeld, who directed Fendi’s fur for decades.
Halie LeSavage over at Marie Claire picked up on the trend as well in January during Copenhagen Fashion week. When visiting designers such as The Garment and Gestuz she noticed many collars. Ones you can either tie on or detach from your outfit. This concept carried on through shows in New York for Fall 2026.

There are many reasons why this is becoming popular. When Bella Hadid went to a Pop-up event in Dallas on the 7th of December last year she wore this Penny Lane Coat that had shearling detailing on the collar and sleeves. Paired with a simple denim midi dress and some old school boots. The coat underneath was plain. The shearling did all the work. Another example of this is Alexa Chung’s recent Silk Taffeta Coat. She stated she commissioned it to be made in a 1900 cocoon style with fur detailing. Its collar and cuffs were cut from repurposed mink, which makes hers one of the few looks this season where the material is actually known.
Again, many celebrities have been sporting the furry collar and don’t even mention what type of fur they are wearing. We know that Bella’s was shearling and Hailey Bieber’s was reported as faux from her recent cow print look. For the rest they just seem to refer to them as having a fluffy trim.
Something about having a collar that you can remove from your clothing will make you spend money. “We’re finding our clients love having fur but may not want to commit to a full-length fur coat or the cost. Having fur on the collar, cuffs or around the front of their cashmere coats is a good alternative. It allows you to use less fur but can still give the illusion that the entire garment is covered” said Alex Mantziaris of CASIANI. Based out of Kastoria, Northern Greece he explained how they create detachable fur collars for their cashmere garments. “If the collar is removable, it allows you to wear your coat casually during the day and add your fur back in at night to make it more glam.”
Like what Nadège Vanhée showed on her runway back in March. Have a coat that can transform from the day to a night look by removing or adding your collar.
This is something that everyone should love about it. There is no question that a collar grabs your attention because it’s right beneath your face. It is the first thing anyone looks at. It’s something that can stand out on any outfit. By spreading that same amount of fur throughout your whole coat it loses its appeal.
Not to mention that it’s affordable. From high street to designer brands Who What Wear has many pictures of the fur collared jacket. Brands that are showing these jackets include Prada, Marni and Jil Sander to name a few. There’s even one that comes with a detachable faux fur collar on the Reformation Matilda Jacket.
Obviously if you want to invest in a coat with full length fur you still can. Fox fur is still cut for whole garments as well as collars. But a collar is a piece you can mix and match between the coats you already own. There is nothing more exciting than putting on your collar and taking the same coat out for the evening.
