The latest in new music from Au/Ra, Jessy Blakemore, The Guest List, Rianne Downey & more in this week’s 1883 On Rotation playlist.

On rotation this week, the London-based Portuguese duo Vaarwell have released a hypnotising new single entitled “Corinthia”. The indie-electronic tune is full of garage percussion, synths, and soft vocals. It’s the first taster from their forthcoming new mixtape 3AM on The Northern Line, which will drop later this year.

Musical shapeshifter Au/Ra is back with a dreamy new song called “HIGH FANTASY”. The song boasts stunning vocals, alt-rock guitars, pulsing drumbeats. Thematically, it’s Au/Ra’s love letter to escapism. She said: “I spent so much time growing up in my own world, completely immersed. I really want my listeners to feel like they are entering another world with me, and this song is the gateway.”

Jessy Blakemore has shared the glorious track “2seater”. Blakemore’s vocals are heartfelt, lush, and perfectly pair with the acoustic guitar. Explaining what the song is about, she said: “2seater is inspired by the sinking feeling of knowing there’s someone else involved in your relationship, but realising there’s only space for two (and you’re not one of them), whilst feeling powerless as it happens.” Her debut EP if you need me, i’m a few missed calls away, is out 10th October via Black Butter.

SORRYNOTSORRY have dropped the new single “Disappear”. There’s enthralling vocals, gut-wrenching lyrics detailing a time of heartbreak, and otherworldly soundscapes. The band emerged after Venezuelan artists Dagnino and Cottin jammed in New York. Influences include Portishead, Tame Impala, and Radiohead.

Fast-rising Manchester five-piece The Guest List are proving to be one of the most exciting new guitar bands to emerge in recent years. The band have already supported Inhaler, Blossoms, and will perform three sold-out shows at The Camden Assembly in November. The group have now shared the slow-burning and anthemic rock song, “Weatherman”. It’s lifted from a forthcoming EP of the same name, which looks at topics from the climate crisis to domestic violence survival. Keep an eye on this band.

The award-winning artist Kali Uchis has teamed up with Ravyn Lenae for the stellar new track “Cry About It!”. It’s the first taste of her forthcoming Sincerely: P.S. deluxe album which lands on September 26th. Go check it out.

Brilliant folk-country artist Rianne Downey has dropped the song “Good In Goodbye”. It’s a melodic earworm with lush vocals, stomping drums, and plenty of banjo for good measure. Downey releases her debut record The Consequence Of Love” on October 17.

LA singer-songwriter Skylar Simone has shared the track moving ballad, “Pedestal”. The song boasts powerful vocals and pristine production from Grammy-winning producer Noel Zancanella. The song traverses the delicate space between external pressure and the desire for genuine connection.

Finally, Indie pop band Electric Guest are back with “The Love On High”. It’s a gorgeous and tender tune with electronic textures and serene vocals. “The Love On High” is about not loosing sight of what’s truly important in life. Speaking about the new song, Frontman Asa Taccone said: “Most people aren’t privileged enough to get to the top of whatever hill they’re trying to climb only to find out it may not bring them whatever peace they thought it might. And even people who do end up at their mountain’s zenith don’t stop long enough to ask themselves if it was worth it. The aspirations in all of our lives are so powerful that we end up chasing them regardless of what they actually bring us. We are all bowing down to something. Might as well attempt to get familiar with what that something is.”
