Mercury Prize-nominated band Friendly Fires are back with a new single, ‘Lose All Your Friends’, via LAB Records.

It’s the band’s first release since 2019’s Offline EP, which followed their comeback and third studio album, Inflorescent.

Formerly a trio, Friendly Fires are now a duo, with Ed Macfarlane and Edd Gibson continuing on following drummer Jack Savidge’s departure earlier this year.

As a two-piece, Macfarlane and Gibson’s creative process has shifted, offering a return to their roots through garage recordings, live drums and more space for human impulse.

Sonically, ‘Lose All Your Friends’ is an understated yet gorgeous return, offering something more ethereal and acidic while retaining the band’s trademark lush vocals and grooving beats.

“Don’t be afraid of change / now is the time we should be shaking it up,” Macfarlane sings as Friendly Fires enter this new era.

Commenting on their return, the band says: “Sometimes you have to lose everything to start again. Embrace the chaos. Take a chance. Don’t be afraid of change.”

Friendly Fires will support Two Door Cinema Club at Madison Square Garden in NYC on September 27 and MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston on September 29.

They will also play a headline show at Elsewhere in Brooklyn on September 28, followed by a UK performance at Bugged Out! on October 10.
