National Opera | ‘The God, The Child’

Leicester’s indietronica trio National Opera unveils their new EP, The God, The Child.

With a blend of sharp electronica and indie influences, The God, The Child transitions seamlessly from the energetic dance beats of “Different Place To Heal” to the melancholic, shoegaze-inspired sounds of “A New Kind Of Energy” and “In Love.” National Opera’s musical journey began with the self-release of their debut album, Remember Who We Love, in the summer of 2022. Originally conceived during lockdown under the name ‘Breakfast’, the album delves into themes of identity, change, and friendship. Their unique fusion of dream pop, indie, and dance is underscored by tight electronic drum sounds and an experimental atmosphere, showcasing their ability to craft intricate melodies while maintaining raw, emotive songwriting, led by captivating vocals.

This EP represents the culmination of their singles released throughout 2023, showcasing the band’s most comprehensive work yet across four emotive indietronica tracks. In discussing the EP, the band shares, “The God, The Child to me is about innocence lost – growing up and realising you and the world aren’t who or what you want it to be, but also about holding hope that change for the better is possible through effort and love. Sonically we’ve tried to translate that in a way that’s kind of comforting, Gary keeps describing it as cosy music and it’s definitely something like that. Music for dancing with or hugging your friends and loved ones through it all.”

The God, The Child is out now.
