For Solya, the road has become another extension of the world she’s been creating since she first started making music in her West Texas bedroom. At just 19, the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has already built a devoted international audience, sold out shows across the US and UK, and released her debut album, Queen of Texas, in March via VERSION III.
The album is a deeply personal introduction to Solya’s world, blending 1950s rock ’n’ roll, classic country, shimmering synths and her love of artists like David Bowie, Patsy Cline and Fiona Apple. Its songs explore chaotic love, rebellion and the experience of growing up queer in a small, conservative town, while retaining the western flair of the landscape she calls home.
Since the album’s release, Solya has taken those songs beyond Texas, bringing Queen of Texas to audiences across the UK and Europe. Her summer travels included her first UK festival appearance at Latitude, where she performed on the Alcove stage, before continuing her European run.
For an artist who once recorded songs alone in her bedroom, there’s something fitting about seeing how those songs take on a life of their own once they leave the studio. The dressing rooms, stages, long journeys and fleeting moments between shows all become part of the story.
Here, Solya takes 1883 Magazine behind the scenes with a collection of photographs from her UK and European tour, including her time at Latitude Festival, offering a glimpse into life on the road as the Queen of Texas takes her music across the Atlantic.

We began our journey overseas for my EU/UK tour!!!

We had band rehearsal and then loaded up the van to drive to Latitude Festival

So much fun playing and we saw Teddy Swims.

Latitude – I love my twin brother

I busted my phone in London and had to buy a £50 trap phone from a vape shop

We took the Ferry over to Europe and I played Glasgow, Cologne, and Paris!

I ate berries for like every meal and played six shows in the UK

Friendship 😊

Then I stayed awake for 48 hours producing in the studio. And then I flew home!
Keep up to date with Solya here.
