“I wrote ‘Tell Me… Please’ as a plea to God, begging for a sign for what to do next.” That’s Serena Sun on her new single, a song born from the exhausting business of having your whole future resting on your own decisions. “It’s about releasing control after feeling the pressure of my fate being in my hands and looking outside myself for help,” the Vancouver singer-songwriter adds.
The track opens quietly, meditative acoustic guitars, swells of manipulated electric lead, before laid-back percussion settles in and Sun starts unspooling a dense, lyrically packed account of youth, growing up, and the uncertainty that comes with both. It’s the kind of song that’s poppy enough to pull you in on the first listen but doesn’t sand down its edges to get there; the depth is still right there in the words. Fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Soccer Mommy and Adrianne Lenker will find a lot to sit with here.

The single comes with a whimsical lyric video, Sun surrounded by rabbits, with hand drawn lettering and animation bringing the narrative to the screen, and arrives ahead of her debut album Slice of the Sun, out 15 January 2027. That record is a concept album drawn from the three years she spent in London between 2023 and 2026 before heading home to Vancouver, working through growth, homesickness, self-doubt and the strange business of starting over. “Tell Me… Please” is a fitting first taste: a song about not knowing what comes next, released right at the threshold of something new.
Sun has been building towards this for a while. She’s been playing piano since she was five and writing and producing by her teens, and she’s since pulled in over 3.4 million streams and an audience spread across Canada, the UK and Europe. A Spotify Fresh Finds Forward Artist for 2026, she’s sold out headline shows in Vancouver and London, toured Europe supporting LEITH, played Rifflandia and Khatsahlano, and made the Glastonbury 2025 Emerging Talent Competition shortlist, with backing from BBC Introducing London and CBC along the way.
