1883 On Rotation: Charli XCX, Friedberg, Gabriella Cole

The latest in new music from Charli XCX, Friedberg, Gabriella Cole, Cosmo Pyke & more in this week’s 1883 On Rotation playlist.

On rotation this week is the brand new single from the forward-thinking pop icon, Charli XCX. Charli is back with the new track, “Von dutch”. It’s a synth heavy, exciting return for the artist and it features stellar vocals, and production by EASYFUN. The song is lifted from her anticipated sixth record, BRAT, following up from 2022’s UK number one record, CRASH.The New York-based singer, songwriter, and producer Body Meat has shared the bew single, “Focus”. It’s an electro-pop track full of pristine vocals ans glitchy video-game-esque textures. Themeatically, the song is inspired by him playing hours of video games like Elden Ring, taking inspiration from the expansive storytelling and gameplay. Buzzy American indie-pop artist Yot Club has shared the single, “Nostalgia”. The track features confessional songwriting combined with bouncy synths, quick drum beats, and melancholic lyricism. “Nostalgia” is lifted from Yot Club’s new album, Rufus, which lands March 29. Post-punk quartet Friedberg, comprised of frontperson Anna Friedberg, guitarist Emily Linden, bassist Cherly Pinero, and drummer Laura Williams, have revealed the new tune, “Hello”. It’s an effortessly cool slice of alt-rock with slick vocals, a catchy drum beat, and driving guitars. Expect to see more from this group this year.

Elsewhere in the playlist you can find Liverpool band, Honey Motel. The group have just shared their track, “Are You Coming With Me?” and it could be a future indie anthem. The track features glistening synths, lush vocals, introspective lyricism, and more. It’s inspired by the “beauty of being a nobody at 25” and takes infleunce from the likes of Mac DeMarco and Declan Mckenna. London newcomer Gabriella Cole has shared the debut single, “on track”. It’s a fantastic R&B gem with gorgeous vocals, vibrant synths, slinky bass, ans warm production. It showcases exactly why you need to pay attention to this rising artist. Gabriella spoke about the track and said: “I made “on track” with my producers Nolais and JEDSOUL as well as the talented songwriters Edàja and SKŸE. This song is really special to me as it doesn’t fit into one box. It’s got hints of pop, alternative R&B and live drums. R&B can be very romantic.” Talented songwriter Cosmo Pyke has shared the honest and captivating track, “Low”. Throughout the song, Cosmo reflects on his mental health whilst soothing organ, guitar licks and horns swell in a dramatic and thrilling fashion. His new EP, Low, lands April 5. Catch him on his first European headline tour from April, Cosmo will headline London’s Electric Brixton on April 25. Finally, Pharrell Williams has shared the addictive new track, “Doctor” featuring Miley Cyrus.
