1883 On Rotation: The She’s In Parties playlist takeover
The ethereal indie four-piece She’s In Parties have taken over the 1883 playlist this week.
You may not have heard of the essex-based group yet but you soon will. Comprised of Katie Dillon (vocals/guitar), Herbie Wiseman (guitar), Matt Carman (drums), and Charlie Johnson (bass), the band have released two heavenly singles so far, in the form of Angelic and I Follow You. With only two official singles out, the group have already cemented themselves as ‘ones to watch’ thanks to their anthemic dream-pop sound and unique lyricism. She’s In Parties are performing their debut outing at Boardmasters festival this Sunday, so if you’re attending don’t miss out. But before then, Katie and Herbie have taken the reigns of the 1883 playlist and have written about some of their favourite songs.
Venus as a boy – Björk
Katie: A classic, timeless tune.
Pearly dew drop’s drops – Cocteau Twins
Katie: This is the first song I found from the Cocteau twins a few years ago and they have been the biggest influence on my music ever since. Ive been inspired by the alternative 80s music scene for a long time, when life now gets a bit too much it’s nice to be able to escape back in time with music.
Naked – Anoushka Shankar
Katie: I came across her music recently and there’s something hypnotising about a sitar. I could sit for hours in my room with incense lit and her music flowing through my wandering mind.
Soft choke – Sulk
Katie: Grunge but with reverb.
Shine – SLOWDIVE
Katie: Slowdive will always be an all time favourite. This song specifically just takes you into another realm. The soft vocals mixed with dreamy guitars create my heaven.
Far Away – Yebba
Katie: Can we talk about her voice! Just wow. A recent find but one I will always love, along with her whole album ‘Dawn’, from heavenly vocals to riveting melodies and runs, this is one for the playlists.
Gauze – Gleemer
Herbie: This was one of the first, kind of, ‘sulky, shoegazey’ songs I had properly heard, the guitars were of instant interest to me, and blew my mind a little bit at the time. The atmosphere for this song is so gut wrenchingly melancholic, and is the main reason I love it so much.
Space age love song – Flock of Seagulls
Herbie: If you could encapsulate the phrase “love at first sight” in a song, this would be that song…
Night drive – White Flowers
Herbie: it’s a scary, beautiful song, definitely a group that inspires us as a band a lot, seen them twice and both times almost cried.
Say it – Newdad
Herbie: One of my favourites off their new EP, “Banshee” a band we all love as a group, definitely draw a lot of inspiration from them.
Is it light where you are? – Art School Girlfriend
Herbie: Katie showed me the EP this song came from, atmospheric pads, synths, a good rhythm and I’m in love, this does not disappoint.
