  1. Cannabis is Ancient

Contrary to the perception of cannabis only emerging in the 1960s, the plant dates back thousands of years. Ancient China used cannabis seeds for making food, oil, rope, and textiles.

As the Chinese traded with Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, cannabis use also expanded. People started using the plant to make paper and eventually medicine.

Though certain parts of the United States don’t accept cannabis, others embrace it primarily for medicinal benefits. Legislators draw the line by comparing THC and CBD, both coming from cannabis.

Here are 8 states that may legalize marijuana soon.

  1. Over 200 Slang Terms for Cannabis

Aside from “grass,” “weed,” or “pot,” cannabis boasts of over 200 different slang words. The English call it “gasper stick,” while Latin American countries use “Caracas.”

The GI soldiers from the Vietnam War also had a nickname for cannabis. They called marijuana their “dinkie dow cigarette” because the “joint” made them do wacky things.

  1. The “Doomsday Vault”

One of the coolest cannabis fun facts is the existence of the “Doomsday Vault.” It is a secret vault housing thousands of cannabis seeds and other plant species. The vault’s location is on the island of Svalbard, between the North Pole and Norway.

The Doomsday Vault opened in 2008, but the idea dates way back to the 1980s. Former executive director of the Crop Trust, Carly Fowler, conceptualized the vault to store backups of various seed samples. The vault freezes the seed samples to preserve their integrity.

Interestingly, the vault received one of its largest seed deposits in 2020. It welcomed over 60,000 seed samples from 36 different groups and countries.

  1. The First Product Bought and Sold Online

What was the first item bought and sold online? The answer is weed.

In 1971, a group of Stanford students completed the first eCommerce transaction. It featured cannabis as the primary product.

The students supposedly bought weed from MIT students selling the goods online. Some contest it’s the other way around, with the Stanford students selling cannabis to their MIT counterparts.

  1. Like a Chocolate High

Did you know eating chocolates offers the same boost as cannabis? The former is not as powerful as the latter, but it can give the same outcome by eating the right amount.

Both chocolate and cannabis bind to the brain’s receptors that promote anandamide. It is a neurotransmitter that perks up your mood. You can try CBD products from Exhalewell for mood booster.
