Sometimes a change of scenery can become a catalyst for self-discovery. For Damin Tyler, leaving Florida behind and relocating to New York marked the beginning of a creative and personal transformation. His debut single ‘Real Man’ was born from this move. Produced by Richie Quake, explores themes of soft masculinity, first love, heartbreak, and the often complicated process of becoming comfortable in your own skin. Honest and emotionally rich, it pairs organic instrumentation with atmospheric production, creating a sound that feels both intimate and expansive.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Mazzy Star, Portishead, Lana Del Rey, and Taylor Swift, Damin crafts songs that are raw around the edges yet cinematic in scope, occupying a space where indie, alternative pop, and Americana comfortably intersect.

Damin Tyler has penned a song diary and shared some BTS photos from the making of his debut single ‘Real Man’.

I grew up in a small town outside of Tampa in Florida, and for a long time I didn’t really know what being myself looked like. As a gay kid, there weren’t many examples around me of the kind of love I wanted for myself, and I spent a lot of time trying to fit into versions of myself that felt easier for other people to understand.

When I first started writing “Real Man,” I wasn’t thinking about releasing it. I was just trying to make sense of a feeling. The song began as a simple idea and evolved over time through sessions with Richie Quake in New York. We rewrote lyrics, reworked production, and kept coming back to one question, does this feel honest?

I spent years writing songs before releasing anything because I wanted my first release to feel like a true introduction. Every time I thought I had found a different debut single, I found myself coming back to ‘Real Man’.

At its core, the song is about being seen by another person. It’s about those rare relationships that help you understand yourself more clearly. The kind of connection that gives you confidence, not because someone changes who you are, but because they remind you of who you’ve been all along.

I wanted the production to feel cinematic and intimate at the same time, like walking through New York in the summer heat with someone stuck in your head. Warm, restless, a little reckless. Like you have somewhere to be, but you’re taking the long way home just to stay in the feeling a little longer.

Looking back, that’s why this song became my debut. It felt like the most honest place to begin.
