Electronic-pop hit purveyors Clean Bandit have teamed up with Irish alt-pop hero Biig Piig for a brand new song entitled ‘I Don’t Wanna Hurt You’. The addictive dancefloor-ready tune is accompanied by a stellar music video which was written, directed, filmed and produced by Clean Bandit.
Shot earlier this year on a farm outside of London and at the collective’s studio and workshop in North London, the gorgeous video involves dramatic flames as a room burns down around Biig Piig. Impressively, the sets were designed and built alongside the pyrotechnics.
Speaking about the filmmaking process, Jack Patterson of Clean Bandit said: “The idea for the video was to reflect the relationship at the heart of ‘I Don’t Wanna Hurt You.’
“Sometimes romantic love can feel like a fire when it engulfs you, takes over everything, and then disappears almost as quickly as it arrived. That’s how this song feels to me… intense, consuming, verging on dangerous, but not destructive in the end.
“That’s what we aimed to capture in this film. The idea of something all-consuming passing through and leaving its mark, before clearing and by the end, we’re back where we started: a little smoky, a little scorched, but still intact.
“Filming with so much fire was exhilarating and liberating, and allowed us to get as close to that feeling as possible, via a mix of careful planning and creative chaos!”
‘I Don’t Wanna Hurt You’ is the first track to be released on Clean Bandit’s own new label, CB X, and the first in a series of new songs to be shared by the collective over the coming months.
The track was recorded at Clean Bandit’s studio in London, produced by Jack Patterson, Parx and Rob Late, with additional production by Grace Chatto.
Discussing the song, Biig Piigsaid: “I Don’t Wanna Hurt You’ is a track we made in Cornwall surrounded by wilderness, it’s a really introspective song and I think that setting was crucial to that happening, when you break away and have a sec to gather thoughts.
“It’s a song about letting go of a relationship and the pain in that when it’s hard to do but you know there’s no other way. We actually started writing it on guitar and then produced it up to what it is now.
“The strings were added by Grace after and really hit on the emotions so hard. Music has always been somewhere to feel held and a way to say things you can’t, and this song was a real example of that too, I think.”
