1883 Magazine can exclusively reveal that Sam Ryder will release ‘What’s The Buzz’, the second recording from the highly anticipated West End revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, tomorrow, Friday 19 June, ahead of his debut in the title role of Jesus at the London Palladium this weekend.
With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, ‘What’s The Buzz’ follows the release of ‘Gethsemane’, which saw Ryder deliver a powerhouse performance live on Britain’s Got Talent. As the emotional climax of the show, ‘Gethsemane’ offered an early showcase for Ryder’s vocal range, passion, and vulnerability in the role.
The new track gives fans another glimpse at what to expect from the forthcoming production. Recorded live to tape at the renowned British Grove Studios, ‘What’s The Buzz’ is infused with funk and 70s influence, driven by a funky bassline, guitar, and synth solos.
‘What’s The Buzz’ is produced by Sam Ryder, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Grammy Award-winning producer Fraser T Smith, whose credits include work with Adele, Stormzy, Dave, and Raye.

Speaking exclusively to 1883 Magazine, Sam said:
‘It was a pleasure co-producing this with Fraser and Andrew. I hope you can feel the mind blowing attention to detail and homage being paid to the heritage of this fascinating and legendary score. It means as much to us as it does to so many across the world. Next stop, The London Palladium!’
The production, directed by Tim Sheader and produced by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, has already broken London Palladium box office records before opening. Due to phenomenal demand, the run will be followed by a limited 12-week engagement at Theatre Royal Drury Lane from October, with Ryder continuing in the role of Jesus.
Ryder leads the cast as Jesus, with Tyrone Huntley as Judas Iscariot at the London Palladium, Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene, and David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate. The role of King Herod will be played by a rotating line-up of performers at the London Palladium, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Richard Armitage, Boy George, Layton Williams, and Julian Clary.
The release follows Ryder’s sophomore album Heartland, which arrived last year and saw him perform his biggest headline show to date at London’s Wembley Arena. His 2022 debut album, There’s Nothing But Space, Man!, reached number one in the UK, and Ryder has since amassed more than 20 million followers across social media, alongside BRIT and Emmy nominations.
‘What’s The Buzz’ will be available on all digital platforms from Friday 19 June. The two new recordings, ‘What’s The Buzz’ and ‘Gethsemane’, have also been pressed on white 10-inch vinyl, available to pre-order now and on sale from opening night.
Jesus Christ Superstar runs at the London Palladium from 20 June to 5 September 2026, before transferring to Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 16 October 2026 to 9 January 2027.
