Alfie Jukes returns with “Edges of You,” his first single in more than a year and a song that marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Brighton singer-songwriter. The track explores the initial moment of attraction when you do not truly know the other person yet, but your imagination begins to create scenarios and fill in the gaps.
Inspired by the coming-of-age energy of the musical Sing Street, the song draws from the early stages of Jukes falling in love with his girlfriend. It does not yet describe a fully established relationship, but rather the curiosity and idealization that emerge before two people truly get to know each other.
From the beginning, the lyrics present this person as someone who already occupies an important place in the protagonist’s mind. Jukes watches her from a distance, sees her often, and wonders about the most ordinary details of her life. He also tries to determine whether she notices him in return or whether, on the contrary, he goes completely unnoticed: “Do I catch your attention from time to time?/Or do I just blend into the traffic lights?” These questions reflect the uncertainty of an attraction that has not yet received a clear response.
The song also addresses the exaggerated willingness we sometimes have to do almost anything to get closer to someone we feel attracted to. In one of the track’s most expressive passages, Jukes sings, “I’ll tell a few lies if I have to/Learn a new language to understand you/I’d dye my hair or start a band.” These lines represent the almost absurd intensity of early feelings, when the possibility of a relationship seems to justify any personal transformation.

Musically, “Edges of You” does not need excessive production to convey a powerful emotion. Its arrangements are organic, its melodies are clear, and Jukes’ performance keeps the focus on the vulnerability at the heart of the song’s concept, while its energy conveys the excitement of someone who feels that a new story is about to begin.
The music video is built around a simple visual concept, focusing on Alfie Jukes as he walks and then runs through an open field. The vastness of the landscape and the constant presence of the horizon evoke the feeling of standing at the edge of something unknown, but also full of possibilities.
Alfie Jukes’ career also helps explain the significance of this release. His path into music included musical theater, a stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and a period of creative exploration during the pandemic, when he began posting covers on social media. Since then, he has amassed more than one million combined followers across platforms, toured with Only the Poets, and developed a catalog consisting of three EPs.
“Edges of You” turns the distance between two strangers into a song about desire, curiosity, and expectation. The single captures that stage when a relationship does not yet exist, but an entire imagined universe has already been built around it.
