Songwriter Clarity Liao has returned with her third solo single, ‘Love You More’, a subdued and reflective release that signals a shift in her artistic direction. The San Francisco-based artist continues to lean into personal storytelling, drawing on themes of quiet longing and emotional restraint.
Having written music since childhood, Liao first gained recognition as the principal songwriter for Navillera, whose debut single ‘Too Young’ received the 2024 Yamaha National Best Popular Music Award. She later secured first place in the 2025 YMS National Composers competition with ‘I Need You’, further establishing her credentials as a songwriter. Her solo work marks a move toward a more introspective and individual sound.
‘Love You More’ offers an early look at her forthcoming EP Dear…, a project structured around a series of personal reflections framed as unsent letters. The release explores themes of love, jealousy, and emotional vulnerability, focusing on feelings that remain unspoken.
Initially conceived as a piano-led ballad, the track has developed into a more layered production, incorporating understated R&B elements alongside its pop foundations. Liao has cited artists such as SZA and BABYMONSTER as influences, a direction that is reflected in the song’s restrained groove and contemporary tone.
Lyrically, the single centres on admiration from a distance, capturing the tension between emotional intensity and silence. A recurring line, “Nothing really hurts, but it hurts that you don’t know me,” underscores the track’s focus on internal conflict rather than outward expression.
As anticipation builds for Dear…, ‘Love You More’ positions Clarity Liao as an emerging voice in alternative pop, one that prioritises subtlety and emotional detail over overt dramatics.
