Alexa Chung has always epitomized cool. She’s everyone’s bonafide ‘It’ girl, constantly revolutionizing and evolving her own style. Now, she takes on the role of Creative Director and Designer for beloved British brand, Barbour, for their Fall/Winter 2024 collection.
Aptly titled “The Edit, by Alexa Chung,” the collection is both creative directed and designed by Chung herself, acting as a celebration of Chung’s unique style and her long-standing relationship with Barbour. “I am so pleased to be exploring a new chapter with Barbour,” Chung shared when asked about the “where the country meets the city” collection. “Designing this collection was a total joy. My intention was to create something immediate that reflects my wardrobe, interests and style in this moment while staying true to the brand’s epic heritage.”

Photos snapped at Glastonbury of Chung’s own outfits — typically wearing a Barbour jacket — were shared on every girls’ Pinterest and Instagram at the time. Knowing that she grew up parading through the fields of Hampshire, it’s a collaboration that just makes sense. Barbour’s history may be steeped in practical wear for fishermen and farmers, but Chung has demonstrated its fashion-forward versatility by pairing pieces like a wax jacket with a delicate slip dress at Glastonbury. Known for blending rugged outerwear with feminine silhouettes, this collaboration is a natural fit for her.

Key pieces in the collection include wax jackets with tartan liners, vibrant quilted outerwear, and knitwear from Harleys of Scotland. The footwear lineup is equally compelling, featuring short “Wellington” boots inspired by Chung’s “Chelsea” boots and stylish slip-on clogs. Each item is named after her closest friends and family, adding a personal touch. For example, the “Dominic” striped crew neck jumper honours her brother.
One standout item is the “Maximilian” ruffled long-sleeve shirt, sure to be a favourite, and is named after Chung’s close friend. Inspired by Chung’s signature love of “Peter Pan” collars, this blouse offers a sophisticated twist on the classic design. The delicate ruffles extend gracefully to the cuffs, providing an elegant upgrade to any tailored wardrobe and perfectly balancing playful nostalgia with grown-up chic. A favourite piece is the “Gail” cable-knit cardigan — a true ‘farm grandma’ knit — that has been crafted in Scotland from 100% lambswool in red, pale yellow, and sky blue.
“It was such an easy decision to work with Alexa again this season as she is so synonymous with the brand, having worn Barbour from being a child,” remarked Paul Wilkinson, Group Commercial Director at Barbour. “Using Barbour’s archive and Scottish tartan heritage, Alexa infused her personality to create a timeless collection of modern wardrobe essentials, which we are so excited to launch to our customers globally.”
