Former Winners Looking for More Grand National Glory

The Grand National is a horse race like no other in the sport. Millions tune in every year to the steeplechase run at Aintree in Liverpool. It also attracts one of the largest crowds of any sporting event in the UK.

This year’s race looks set to be another thrilling renewal, as it has attracted a strong list of entries, including two former winners in Corach Rambler and Noble Yeats. Those two horses will be bidding to join a small list of horses to win the race twice.

Corach Rambler Set to Defend His Crown

When he won the Grand National in 2023, Corach Rambler became only the third Scottish-trained horse in history to win the race. He is 12/1 in the Grand National odds 2024 to repeat his success this season.

The horse racing results today show it has not been the best season so far for Lucinda Russell’s runner. He made his seasonal reappearance at Kelso where he was fifth of six runners in a handicap chase.

Russell opted to run her Grand National hero in the Grade One Lancashire Chase at Haydock Park back in November. He has had just one runner behind him in that race which was won by Royale Pagaille.

Corach Rambler will have a final run before the 2024 Grand National at the Cheltenham Festival. He has been entered in both the Ultima Handicap Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup. The 10-year-old has won the last two runnings of the former, but he is more likely to feature in the Gold Cup this year where he will take on Irish stars Galopin Des Champs and Fastorslow.

Noble Yeats Returns Arguably a Better Horse

Irish horse Noble Yeats was one of the youngest winners of the Grand National in history when he prevailed in the race in 2022. Prior to that race, he had only once been successful over fences.

Since his victory in the world’s most famous steeplechase, Emmet Mullins’ runner has won the Grade Two Many Clouds Chase and Grade Two Cleeve Hurdle. The versatile horse has been campaigned over hurdles and fences.

This year’s will be Noble Yeats’ third appearance in the Grand National. He ran a respectable fourth place in 2023 when carrying 15lb more weight on his back than his success 12 months earlier. Once again, he jumped well, and he showcased his impressive stamina.

Mullins is opting to go an unusual route towards Aintree as his horse will contend the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. The day three feature takes place over 3m, and it is one of the five Championship races at the meeting.

The handicapper has given Noble Yeats a weight allocation of 11st 8lb this year, 3lb lower than in 2023. He now has much more experience over fences than he did in 2022 and his connections will be confident of another big run from their horse.

The 2024 Grand National takes place on Saturday, 13th of April. It will be the 176th running of the prestigious National Hunt contest.
