Millennials (sometimes referred to as Generation Y) is the demographic that consists of people who were born between 1981 and 1996. As we know, a lot happened across the world in this period, with the advancements in technology perhaps having been one of the profound evolutions of this era.
The technology industry revolutionized everything that it had touched and continues to do so. As a result, it changed a lot of the methods and ways that people who were born before and during this time did things, especially for those before the Millennial era.
Indeed, those born between the years 1981 and 1996 began to grow up with new technological advances, and by the time they were teenagers or adults, they had access to many things that others would have found impossible to comprehend.
Millennials had no choice but to embrace it
It’s a little different from those born between 1997 and 2012 (Gen Z) and the current demographic of Generation Alpha (early 2010s and mid-2020s), as those groups will have been brought up with it, but Millennials had to embrace it.
The rise of certain gadgets has helped to change the way that many of those born as a Millennial would do things. Smartphones would become available and become the main device for whatever they wanted to do. You may have heard of a recent trend that discusses “mobile tasks vs laptop tasks” on social media platforms; this highlights just how big these devices have been to Millennials.
If you want to book flight tickets or accommodation, you’ll likely use a laptop. But if you want to play games or visit a crypto casino, then you can use your smartphone and obtain the same type of experience that would be witnessed on a different device. Indeed, those in Gen Z would have no real recollection of doing certain things differently because of the impact that the technology that is used for the gadget has had on the way people live their lives.
It’s the same for many activities, whether it be reading, looking up the news, watching TV and films, or even shopping. If you’re a Millennial, how often do you shop on your smartphone? You probably do 90%+ on your phone because you can. Gen Z probably do even more, but those before the Millennial period probably struggle and still go out to the shops more often than not.
Millennials will have to start learning new technologies soon
Just as Gen X and Baby Boomers before them would have had to, Millennials will have to start learning about new technologies and adapting to them soon. There will be processes and technologies that are used that Gen Z are comfortable with that those born in the previous demographic won’t have a clue about, while Gen Z might struggle to get to grips with the tech that those born in the Gen Alpha period will grow up with and embrace as human nature.
Technology continues to evolve as the world continues to spin on its axis. Neither are slowing down, and embracing those changes is going to be the only thing that Millennials can do to ensure they don’t get left behind.
