Heavy metal band Metallica has announced it is to extend its Life Burns Faster residency at the Las Vegas Sphere. Having already added six dates to the initial eight-date roster earlier this week, the LA band’s most recent announcement means the run will now include 24 dates. Life Burns Faster is now set to run into 2027.
Metallica has continued its policy of not repeating any songs in each pair of shows. Tickets are on sale now.

Las Vegas is known primarily for its gambling scene. Around 40 million people visit Sin City annually to enjoy casino table games and slots. The popularity of Las Vegas for its casino scene has continued throughout the years, though the Metallica residency comes at a difficult time for Las Vegas. The city saw a significant annual drop in visitor numbers in 2025. More than 3 million fewer people came to Sin City.
The drop has been attributed to rising costs, challenging economic conditions, and geopolitical tensions, especially between the US and Canada. Casinos have tried to encourage visitors to return, but the prominence of online casinos, which offer potentially hefty jackpots and extensive bonuses like free spins no deposit bonuses, means the casino industry has changed.
But, while online casinos offer convenience, making them popular, Las Vegas still has much to offer its visitors that can’t be enjoyed at online alternatives.
Residencies rose to prominence in the 1940s with Liberace and gained even more popularity in the 1950s thanks to Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack. While they were once considered a final payday for artists in the twilight years of their careers, residencies now attract top-tier and emerging talents.
Adele, Garth Brooks, U2, and Metallica are just some of the names set to appear this year.
For the stars, residencies increase brand value. They can also be highly lucrative. Adele earns a reported $2m per night for her Caesars Palace slot. And Celine Dion is believed to have raised nearly $700m in ticket sales across 16 years.
Metallica was formed in 1981 after guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield responded to drummer Lars Ulrich’s LA Recycler ad. The band enjoyed rapid success, launching its first studio album, Kill ‘Em All, in 1983. However, it was their sophomore album, Ride The Lightning that cemented the band’s place in metal folklore.
They have gone on to sell 163 million copies of their 11 studio albums and have picked up 9 Grammy Awards. Metallica saw a resurgence in popularity in 2022, after Master of Puppets was used in Stranger Things season 4.

However, the Sphere run marks the band’s first Las Vegas residency, with drummer Ulrich saying they had the idea after watching U2’s opening gig at the high-tech venue.
The Sphere cost $2.3bn to build. It is a 366-foot-tall dome with a 16K wraparound LED screen inside. With seating for 20,000 people, it also includes a 580,000-square-foot external display. 4D effects enable wind, temperature control, and even the introduction of scents and aromas.
Circa Resort & Casino, The D Las Vegas, and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino offered an at-par exchange to their Canadian guests. And the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority separately launched a $3.5m campaign to bring Canadians back.
