Steve Stinson has released his new single ‘Fly Away’, the third track to be shared from his forthcoming debut album Cocoon, due later this year.
The Americana-tinged song draws on Stinson’s experiences of travel, change and starting over, looking back to the period after his family moved to Perth, Western Australia. The relocation marked the beginning of a life shaped by movement and a growing curiosity about different places and cultures.
Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma and raised between the United States and Australia, Stinson spent decades developing his songwriting alongside a career outside of music. He is now based in Papua New Guinea, with his experiences across continents informing the personal storytelling at the centre of his music.
‘Fly Away’ blends blues, folk and Americana influences with warm instrumentation and reflective lyrics. The track explores the idea of finding belonging through experiences and personal growth rather than in a single physical place.
“Fly Away is a reminder that every journey changes you,” Stinson says. “It’s about discovering that home isn’t always a place. Sometimes it’s the person you become along the way.”
The new single follows the previous releases from Cocoon and adds to the album’s broader themes of transformation and self-discovery. Stinson has described the record as a reflection on the moments that shape people and the gradual process of becoming someone new.
With Cocoon set to arrive later this year, ‘Fly Away’ offers another preview of Stinson’s Americana-influenced sound and the personal stories behind his debut.
