If you’re interested in travel, Let’s dive into our top 5 must-sees in Sanremo.

The Co-cathedral of San Siro

The Cathedral of San Siro was originally built all the way back in 811 AD. Since then it was rebuilt at some point in the 13th century. So, the cathedral has the achievement of being the oldest building of this type in the city.

Tradition states that Siro, the bishop of Genoa, celebrated mass here. There are some beautiful works of art here, such as statues by Anton Maria Maragliano and a captivating black crucifix. As such, the cathedral is visited by thousands of people from all over the world for both religious purposes and for wanting to enjoy the cathedral’s unique beauty.

It’s definitely one of the most beautiful landmarks that the city of Sanremo has to offer to visitors. The cathedral is open for visits at all times, and there’s no entry fee.

The Russian Church

Did you know that there’s even a Russian church in Sanremo? It was built by the burgeoning Russian community in 1912 when the number of Russian citizens in the area had reached 1,000 for the first time. It’s one of the most important and the most beautiful symbols of the city of Sanremo.

You’ll find the Russian Church at the start of the so-called Empress Walk. This promenade was named after Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna of Russia and is definitely another location that will be worthy of your visit in its own right. The church is built with Russian architecture in mind; within it, you can again marvel at beautiful works of art by Elena of Montenegro and Vittorio Emanuele III.

The Russian Church is always open, and there’s no entrance fee for visiting.

The Civic Museum of Sanremo

You’ll find the famous Civic Museum of Sanremo in the beautiful, awe-inspiring building of Palazzo Nota, built in the 18th century. Previously, this building was the municipal seat and the Genoese commissioner’s residence.

The unique part about this museum is that there are items and artefacts going as far as prehistoric life in the area of modern Sanremo. The building has been restored, and it looks better than ever. There are beautiful paintings, sculptures, and frescoes that you’ll get to admire at the Civic Museum of Sanremo.

You can also have a multimedia experience of the museum, owing to the implementation of modern technology. The entry timetables are from Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 8.00 AM to 18.00 PM. The full entry fee is set at 5 EUR, and there are discounts for certain categories of visitors for a discounted price of just 3 EUR.

The Casino of Sanremo

This is arguably the centrepiece of Sanremo. The Sanremo Casino is one of the just three remaining Italian casinos. The Casino de Samremo is a beautiful piece of architecture built in the Art Nouveau style. Inside, you will get fine food and service and be able to play traditional casino games and find out how to play poker.

The first thing that captivates the visitors is the design of the casino. Its designer was the renowned French architect Eugenio Ferret. He also managed the casino in the first two years since it was opened. The casino has been open ever since it was created in 1905, though there was a brief period during World War 2 when the casino was closed with the enactment of a royal decree.

Even if you aren’t a gambler, you will do well to visit the casino and just admire its architecture from both outside and inside. Inside the casino, you’ll find several gaming rooms that are exquisitely designed, as well. Moreover, there’s no entry fee – however, only adults are allowed to enter. The Casino of Sanremo is open for business from 10.00 to 2.30am.

Ariston Theater

Last but not least on our list, we have the Ariston Theater of Sanremo. This is the site where the Italian song festival takes place annually – also known as the Sanremo Festival. There are loads of different types of artistic events that take place at the Theater of Sanremo.

This includes movie and theatric shows, opera, ballet, cabaret, exhibitions, and many other music events. Also, this is the site where the Tenco Award for artistic excellence is awarded. There’s no shortage of room here, either. The main hall has a 2,000-seat capacity, and this is where the Sanremo Festival takes place.

The Ariston Theater is not just some ordinary cinema, either. It’s a historic site that looks and feels authentic. Being able to watch a movie here will feel like an exciting, unique experience. Moreover, you can take photos of the place to keep the memories of your visit alive. The Ariston Theater is open from 9.00 to 23.30, and the entry fees vary depending on the particular show you intend to enjoy.
