1883 On Rotation: The Heavy, hemlocke springs, Steve Aoki

The latest in new music from The Heavy, Diplo, hemlocke springs, Steve Aoki & more on this week’s 1883 On Rotation playlist.

We can’t wait to showcase so many wonderful artists and bands over the next 12 months with our On Rotation playlist. So let’s get started, shall we? Kicking off our first playlist of 2023 is The Heavy. The criminally underrated band have just announced their sixth studio LP, AMEN, which drops on April 21st. Hurricane Coming is the explosive first single to be taken from the LP and it’s a thrilling mix of 60s R&B, riffs, gospel harmonies and pounding drums. Bending Colours is the sublime debut EP from Amsterdam-based artist and producer, ISHA. The five-track extended play is full of slick production and interesting collaborations. Make sure to check out Screw My Head Back On featuring Len. If you’re looking for a grooving beat and pristine vocals, look no further than Vagabon’s new single, Carpenter. Co-produced by Tamko and Rostam (Vampire Weekend, Haim, Clairo, Maggie Rogers), it’s an effortlessly fun track that marks the artist’s first musical release since her 2019 self-titled album. Speaking about the track Vagabon says:“Carpenter is about that humbling feeling when you desperately want to be knowledgeable, you want to be advanced, you want to be mature, forward-thinking, and evolved“. You can expect a new album to be announced at some point this year. Tennis have been making waves over the past few years thanks to their vibrant indie-pop sound. Following on from their critically acclaimed 2020 LP Swimmer, the duo have just announced the forthcoming new LP, Pollen. Let’s Make A Mistake Tonight is the second lead single from the record and it’s an earworm.

Elsewhere in the playlist, you can find the latest release from the DJ/Producer and eleven-time grammy nominee, Diplo. Wasted featuring Kodak Black & Koe Wetzel is a lowkey guitar-fuelled country-rock bop. It’s another excellent example that showcases that the world-famous musician can easily turn his hand to any genre. North Carolina-based artist hemlocke springs has just dropped the self-produced tune entitled stranger danger. It’s a quirky alt-pop single that follows on from her previous TikTok viral tune, Girlfriend. The emerging artist has already been co-signed by Grimes and championed by Steve Lacy and a slew of tastemakers. So you can definitely expect to see more from this artist later in the year. Matilda Mann & Spill Tab, name a better duo! The pair are both incredible songwriters and they’ve combined their individual talents on the collaborative effort, Borderline Insane. It’s a guitar-driven anthem with production from Oscar Schelller. Finally, previous 1883 cover star Steve Aoki has shared his latest track, MUÑECAS. The celebrated DJ teamed up with renowned Argentine artists TINI and La Joaqui for the single, resulting in an infectious dance floor filler.
