Fresh off the release of her shimmering new single “Super Love Me”, singer-songwriter Grace Davies steps into the spotlight for this week’s 1883 On Rotation takeover. First capturing the nation’s attention as a standout finalist on The X Factor in 2017, Grace has since carved out a bold path of her own—redefining pop on her terms with razor-sharp lyrics, cinematic production, and an unwavering sense of self.
Her latest track is a euphoric blend of vulnerability and empowerment, following the fierce feminist anthem “MDE.” From chart-topping success and widespread radio support to syncs on everything from Love Island to Strictly, Grace is a rising force you can’t ignore.
Grace Davies takes over this week’s playlist to celebrate the release of her new single, “Super Love Me”, sharing some of her favourite songs at the moment.
“Rocket” – Robbie Williams
Anyone who knows me knows Robbie Williams occupies a fair amount of my brain – and he’s returned with a song that takes me right back to growing up listening to Life Thru A Lens in the car, aka one of the best debut albums of all time. It’s Brit-Pop perfection, and I couldn’t be happier to be blasting this out of my car’s speakers on full volume in the sun. Love you, Rob.
“CUNTISSIMO” – MARINA
A soundtrack of my teenage years, Marina (sans The Diamonds) released probably my favourite song of this year so far – I’ve not been able to keep it off repeat. Lord knows I love a string intro, but that arpeggiator’s entrance feels like a slap around the face, which I am consciously and repeatedly requesting every time I play it. Stank face activated. She’s the queen of making the most silly lyrics sound sexy, and I have personally been in a one-sided love affair with her for 15 years. “Cuntissimo” is that ‘bish’.

“Take A Sexy Picture” – CMAT
It’s a CMAT Summer! I love this song so much, I have huge writer envy as it perfectly represents my thoughts and feelings as a woman above the age of 27 trying to date and feeling like you’ve done everything in past relationships, even when it didn’t benefit you, therefore leaving you with the question of ‘do I have an expiry date?’. Also, I cannot stop singing verse two around the house in the worst Irish accent you have heard.
“Lovesick Lullaby” – YUNGBLUD
When I first heard this, I posted it on my Instagram story saying ‘this gives me Life Thru A Lens vibes, so obviously I’m a fan’ – and this was merely a couple of weeks before “Rocket” came out. It’s got huge 90s nostalgia buried in the production, and lyrically it so Robbie / Blur. Whatever YUNGBLUD has been putting in his latest releases is nothing short of crack. BritPop you are so loved.
“Killah” (feat. Gesafellstein) – Lady Gaga
Pop excellence. I haven’t been able to stop doing the dance since she performed this at Coachella. Gaga never misses, but Mayhem as an album took me right back to one of the best albums ever made: Born This Way and this track was an absolute stand out. It’s got glimpses of Prince in the guitar licks, and 2:21 onwards makes me want to repeatedly bash my head against a wall – in the best way.

“catch these fists” – Wet Leg
It’s hard to make a comeback when your first album was so idiosyncratic, so monumental and inspired a new generation of music, but Wet Leg have managed to hook me in once again. Honestly I’m just here for any song that remotely slags off creepy men and I feel prolific joy when blasting this at full volume whilst doing household chores and screaming ‘man down’.
“You Killed The Music” – Debbii Dawson
I discovered Debbii about six months ago and I’ve been in love with her last EP. It’s safe to say we both have pretty similar influences, I know a fellow ABBA girly when I hear one, and maybe that’s why I gravitate towards her so much – but she’s got a hint of country within all that retro sparkliness, which I love. The dramatic ascending piano in the first pre-chorus makes me feel powerful. And then it’s just bop city from there on out. Love.
“Link”- Djo
This was one of those beautiful moments when Spotify’s delicious algorithm feeds you something it knows you’re going to want injected into your bloodstream. Pretty sure I was driving down a motorway in the sun when this first came on and I fear that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be listened to. As a lover of 70’s music, particularly E.L.O, it hits all the right notes for me with those tight, dry and heavily panned harmonies in the chorus. Not a clue what he’s saying from 1:16 -1:42, but I sing along in Simlish and do so with my chest.
“Salvation” – Rebecca Black
The c*ntification of Rebecca Black needs to be studied. The chorus makes me feel like I can fly. It was written by two of my close friends and co-writers Lauren Aquilina & Marcus Andersson (to anyone who doesn’t know, Lauren’s written a LOT of my songs with me and Marcus produced my IWIYW EP) so obviously I have to stan – but it’s ass shaking, vogueing, main pop girly perfection.
“21st Century Cool Girl “- Chloe Qisha
The pop girls are just getting it this year. Chloe Qisha has had a chokehold on me since I heard the lyric “waste a little time just me and the cats” in Sexy Goodbye – and she has continued to deliver hit after hit over the past year. This track brings both my love for ABBA, musical theatre and pedalled piano notes. Notably, it has a similar intro to “Sinner” by The Last Dinner Party and I never know which one I’m listening to at first, so it’s always a nice surprise. If Chloe Qisha is the retailer, then consider me a very happy customer.
“Super Love Me” – Grace Davies
For good measure, enjoy!
