The latest in new music from Zak Abel, Sue Clayton, Swim School, DEJA & more in this week’s 1883 On Rotation playlist.
On rotation this week is viral sensation, Lizzy McAlpine. The songwriter has collaborated with Spotify and released two new tracks, a cover of Dawes’ A Little Bit Of Everything and a glorious rendition of her hit, Ceilings. Recorded at Spotify Studios in LA, the reworking over Ceilings is angelic. London-based singer-songwriter Zak Abel is back with a vibrant and rhythmic track called Dance With You (The Comeback). 1883 caught up with Zak recently to discuss the track, his forthcoming new album, and more. Acclaimed artists and producers Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder, have teamed up to form the group, Dinner Party. Blending the lush sounds of Jazz, R&B, and Hip-hop, Dinner Party have undoubtedly made something truly special. The collective are releasing their debut project Enigmatic Society on April 14th. Make sure to check out lead single Insane feat. Ant Clemons), It’s outstanding. Respected singer-songwriter Morgan Kibby has launched a new project under the moniker, Sue Clayton. The multi-instrumentalist and producer’s debut album under the Clayton persona is entitled Rookie and drops May 5th. If you adore 60s-esque tunes with stunning vocals and an orchestral flair, make sure to check out Clayton’s new single, Runaway Bride. Over the years Kibby has written for some of the biggest names in music but this Sue Clayton project may be her most exciting musical endeavour yet.
Elsewhere in the playlist, you can find the rising group, Swim School. The trio have just unveiled their new track, Don’t Leave Me Behind. It’s a superb slice of indie-pop with heartfelt vocals, anthemic synths, and infectious guitar hooks. The trio are releasing their sophomore EP Duality on May 25th and you can catch them at their London headline show on May 30th. Next up is the emerging powerhouse, DEJA. The songwriter has garnered an array of support from tastemakers already thanks to the charismatic artist’s talent for writing unapologetically bold tunes. Her latest release is entitled ONE and it’s a swaggering afro-infused pop gem. Don’t sleep on this artist. The duo known as Brevin Kim have shared a new teaser from their upcoming new album, High School Football. Walls featuring OG Maco is a textured and atmospheric release with laidback vocals and slick production. Finally, the pop-superstar-in-the-making Henry Moodie has shared his new single, Eighteen. The track makes for an exciting listen and follows on from Moodie amassing over 60 million streams worldwide.
